Athens ~ Greece
Athens is the capital and largest city of Greece. The main monument that every tourist should see is the Acropolis. This is part of the former city located on a hill, from which there is a unique view of the whole of Athens.
The road from the city to the Acropolis is a bit steep and winding among olive trees, where, with a bit of luck (which we were lucky enough to be), you can see wandering turtles.
The ticket costs 20 euros and can be purchased at ticket offices or vending machines. which are nearby. Then we have to hike up the stairs, but the views make up for the journey.
At the foot of the hill you can admire the Odeon of Herodes Atticus - a beautiful amphitheater built in 161 AD. preserved in very good condition and even now serves as a venue for numerous events, thanks to its wonderful acoustics it brings out the best in music. Even on the day we visited the Acropolis, there was a concert there, which could then be heard even in the city.
The buildings we can discover on the hill include:
The famous Parthenon - a temple dedicated to the goddess Athena, is one of the most important monuments.
The Theater of Dionysus was a model of later Greek theaters.
Erechtheion temple dedicated to Poseidon and Athena.
Propylaea, the gate leading to the Acropolis.
Temple of Athena Nike.

Near the hill there is the Acropolis Museum, where we can admire artifacts from the famous slope.
Descending from the Acropolis, we can also climb the stairs to the rock, from which we have a beautiful view of the Acropolis and the entire city and the remains of ancient buildings.
After sightseeing, you can go for delicious food at nearby bustling restaurants, which Greece is also famous for.
